Perfectly smooth hair, which attractively shines and seems like a whole cloth of silk, - it is not just a tribute to fashion, and evidence of health and grooming. But most girls have no idea how to achieve this effect at home. However, there are modern procedures that allow you to straighten and revitalize hair for a long time. This is how Brazilian straightening works. Let's try to understand what this procedure is, what are its features and advantages in a little more detail.

Brazilian straightening: what is it?

The procedure of Brazilian straightening can be described as a procedure, the essence of which is the application of a special cosmetic product with silicones, keratin (a protein that forms the basis of human hair), polymers, nourishing and conditioning ingredients, as well as a formaldehyde solution to the curls. Such a product provides hair straightening, while helping to cope even with ethnic, completely unruly and stubborn curls. But how does such a procedure differ from keratin restoration?

Keratin restoration or straightening is a possible alternative to Brazilian straightening, but it acts more gently, we can say sparingly. Keratin restoration helps to reanimate the structure of the hair shaft, while straightening/straightening itself is not the primary goal. At the same time, Brazilian straightening is performed exclusively on curly, stiff, unruly strands and makes them smooth, giving the hair a glossy shine. That is why in the composition of the means for such a procedure there are necessarily aldehydes (the same formaldehyde). It is he who has a powerful straightening effect - under the influence of high temperature such a substance penetrates deep into the hair shaft and rebuilds its structure. Formaldehyde helps to fill hairs with keratin and seals such protein inside, which determines the healthy intense shine of strands after the procedure.

Since aldehydes can provoke irritation of the mucous membranes of the eyes and respiratory tract when working with products for Brazilian straightening, they are often replaced by other, less aggressive substances. However, in any case, such a procedure is carried out in a spacious, well-ventilated room. And pregnant women and nursing mothers it is not recommended, as there is no confirmation of the safety of Brazilian straightening for such categories of people.

After carrying out this procedure to straighten the hair, the master necessarily insists that the hair for the next 72 hours did not get moisture (including water, sweat, rain, snow, etc.). This recommendation is dictated by two things at once:

after application of the product, the hair is still reacting with aldehydes, and exposure to water or steam can lead to the evaporation of such substances, which may be unsafe for health;

moisture can interfere with the absorption of keratin and aldehydes into the hair shaft, which can lead to curvature of the hair shafts - the whole effect of straightening can be undone.

There are many hair straightening technologies. They can differ greatly from each other on the methodology. In particular, American straightening - a unique patented method of getting rid of curls - requires the composition to be on the hair for 72 hours. At the same time, Brazilian straightening is considered a more classic option and is much faster.

How to perform Brazilian straightening: technique of performance

Brazilian straightening is a salon procedure. Theoretically, it can be performed at home, but experienced masters do not recommend such experiments with your appearance. First, independently, without proper skills, it is very difficult to apply the composition really evenly, distributing it throughout the strands. Secondly, the presence of formaldehyde in the composition makes the procedure is not the safest - it is better to entrust it to a master, because in case of violations of safety techniques of such a procedure, the consequences can be sad.

Brazilian straightening is carried out step by step:

  1. The master washes the client's hair with a special shampoo. It is also called technical or means of deep cleaning. This shampoo is particularly effective in cleaning the hair and scalp, removing the smallest particles of sebum, styling residue, etc., from them. The product also lifts the scales of the hair shaft cuticle, which ensures the deepest possible penetration of the straightening agent.
  2. Curls are blotted with a soft towel and dried with a hair dryer on cold and warm air at 70-80% or until completely dry (according to the features of a particular product).
  3. The master selects a means for straightening, taking into account all the peculiarities of a particular client. It can be a composition for the Slavic type of curls, colored and damaged hair, stiff ethnic curls, etc.
  4. Having put on gloves, the master evenly spreads the product throughout the hair. To do this, first the curls are divided into zones and partially retracted to the top. The master, as a rule, begins to move from the occipital zone forward.
  5. The product is kept on the hair for the prescribed amount of time. The duration of exposure is determined by the structural features of the hair and the characteristics of the selected product.
  6. The master removes the remnants of the means - removes them with a brush or partially washes off. Some amount in any case remain on the strands. After the hair is dried with a hair dryer until completely dry (this is a prerequisite for moving to the next stage of straightening).

After the dried strands are straightened with a flat iron. The master selects the temperature and the optimal number of passes through the hair, taking into account their type and condition.

Brazilian hair straightening allows you to maintain excellent condition, smoothness and evenness of strands for 3-6 months. To maintain the result for as long as possible, you should adhere to the recommendations of the master, including providing strands with proper care. It is important to use shampoos without aggressive components (including sulfates or sodium chloride), as well as regularly apply masks and balms that have keratin in their composition.
